MVP urged to build school

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga, Philippines — Governor Lilia Pineda has urged “Cabalen” businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan to set up a technical and vocational school in this province to help enhance the skills of students to become globally competitive.

The Provincial Information Office (PIO) reported that Pineda had invited Pangilinan, also known in business circles as “MVP,” to create the tech-voc school that would give poor students a chance to learn while paying school fees lower than most state universities. It was during Pangilinan’s celebration of his 65th birthday in his hometown Apalit when Pineda discussed the possibility of the construction of the school, the PIO said. (Jonas Reyes)

Cavite to go after polluters

DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite — The Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) have recommended the filing of appropriate charges against those responsible for the dumping of 235 drums containing toxic wastes in Dasmariñas City, Cavite.

The illegal dumping of liquid waste is a violation of Republic Act 6969, the Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes Control Act. Police arrested Ramon L. Olaguer, driver of the truck which unloaded 62 drums of the said wastes on a pay-per delivery basis contract between truck owner, Eduardo G. Mercado, and contractor, one Roque Gallarte. Feeding program benefits 600 kids

ORION, Bataan — As part of his education program, Mayor Jose “Pepe” Santos has launched the first-ever feeding program for elementary schools in the town on top of his sponsorship of 200 college scholars.

Some 600 pupils of the Calungusan Elementary School are currently benefiting from the feeding program which will run for four months before transferring to other schools.

Santos said poor but deserving students have availed of his college scholarship program. (Mar T. Supnad)

Bulacan cops solve rob case

SAN MIGUEL, Bulacan — Senior Supt. Fernando H. Mendez Jr., acting Bulacan police director, revealed Thursday that the sensational robbery-slay case in this town has been solved with the arrest of three suspects in Nueva Ecija the other day.

Mendez identified the three as Gapan City farmers Edwin G. Lumibao, 29, and Michael M. Dan Javier, 32; and one Richard Francisco Parayao, 33, of Barangay Poblacion, this town. Mendez said the suspects were arrested one after the other with each of them allegedly yielding a certain item stolen from slain veterinarian Orlando San Antonio Roura, 50, of Barangay San Jose, here. 6 motorcycles for Abra PPO

BANGUED, Abra — Governor Eustaquio P. Bersamin has turned over six motorcycles to the Abra Police Provincial Office (PPO) to help in the latter’s campaign to run after criminals.

Senior Superintendent Amando S. Lagiwid, director of the Abra PPO, received the brand-new motorcycles and promised Bersamin that they will be used for Operation Plan Tugis (Oplan: TUGIS) which is aimed at hunting down known criminal elements.

The Governor said he had asked the Sangguniang Panlalawigan through Vice Governor Rolando Somera to support his budget proposal for an increased allocation to the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC). (Dexter A. See)
