The Department of the Interior and Local Government DILG expressed support in the campaign to protect the native languages that are part of the country’s culture and wealth in celebration of the "National Language Month" every year from August 1 to 31.
For three consecutive years, DILG Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr. noted that the Komisyon ng Wikang Filipino (KWF) has awarded the department with the "Seal of Service Excellence" as proof of its support to such initiative.
In a statement, the DILG said the award is in recognition “of our keen use of Filipino as the language of public service."
He added that the KWF can count on the department “to be your partner in spreading the use of the Filipino language and preserving the native language in local governments, including in our offices and partner agencies."
“Together we move towards a New Philippines wherein every citizen continues to use, honor, and propagate Filipino as their national language. Once again, happy National Language Month celebration to all of us," the DILG said.
This year, the celebration of the National Language Month is anchored on the theme “Filipino: Language of Liberation," which aims to inform the Filipinos about the role of language as a vessel of liberation.
