Amazon falls in La Union
CAMP FLORENDO, La Union, Philippines — An amazon, identified by police as the third highest ranking communist rebel leader in northern Luzon, was captured the other day in Barangay Ortiz, Naguilian, this province.
Senior Superintendent Ramon Purugganan, La Union police director, said Gloria Floresca, alias “Eloy” and “Glorie,” 48, is the alleged head of the Finance Bureau of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC).
She was arrested by a warrant issued by Judge Melanio C. Rojas Jr. of the Regional Trial Court Branch 25 in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur for the crime of rebellion. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
Cavite sets up police corners
IMUS, Cavite —Police corners or stand-by areas for policemen were set up in the cities and towns of Cavite to further boost law enforcement’s campaigns on road safety and peace and order.
The police visibility scheme was implemented following the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) between Senior Superintendent John C. Bulalacao, officer-in-charge (OIC) of Police Provincial Office (PPO) and Rolando C. Mallari, chairman of the Cavite Shell Dealers Association, last Tuesday at Camp General Pantaleon Garcia in this town.
Under the agreement, all Shell gas stations in the province would provide a space for police posts. (Anthony Giron)
Zambales PPO has new OIC
IBA, Zambales — Senior Superintendent Wendy G. Rosario has been installed as the new Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Zambales Police Provincial Office (PPO), replacing former provincial director (PD), Sr. Supt. Raffy Santiago.
Rosario, a Pangasinan native and member of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1982, took on the post last Tuesday but still holds his position as Deputy Regional Director for Operations of the Police Regional Office 3 in concurrent capacity. (Franco G. Regala)
P200,000 bounty for robber-rapist
SAN FERNANDOCITY, Pampanga — Governor Lilia G. Pineda offered Friday a P200,000 reward for the arrest of a serial rapist-robber who had targeted at least 17 lady dentists in Luzon, including one in this province. Chief Superintendent Edgardo Tinio, chief of the PPO, identified the suspect as one Alex Beltran or Veltran, aged between 35 and 40, and supposedly from Barangay Sta. Lucia, Sta. Ana, Pampanga.
Last June 23, Beltran robbed a female dentist of some P40,000 and tried to rape her inside her clinic in Barangay Sto. Domingo, Mexico, this province. Rizal bikathon to draw 800
TAYTAY, Rizal — Hundreds of biking enthusiasts belonging to various bikers’ groups based in the Southern Tagalog Region and Metro Manila are joining police and military officials and personnel in Sunday’s bikathon which will start here.
The biking event, expected to draw close to 800 bikers, is in line with the police-community relations program. Senior Supt. Manuel Cesar Prieto said the assembly for the Bike for Peace event will be in front of the municipal hall across Club Manila East, here, at 5:30 a.m. (Nel B. Andrade)
