Did you know? Carlos Yulo, top Filipino gymnast, was once a Red Cross youth volunteer
Carlos Yulo, the most decorated Filipino gymnast, once honed his discipline and dedication not just in the gym but also as a Red Cross Youth volunteer.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Aug. 8, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) celebrated Yulo’s victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he excelled in the men’s vault and floor exercises, making him the Philippines’ first double Olympic gold medalist.
“We never doubted his determination, commitment, and persistence,” said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dick Gordon.
“Carlos is a member of the Red Cross Youth-Manila Chapter and made national history as the first Olympic double gold medalist, which makes us even prouder,” he added.
Before he became a world-renowned athlete, Yulo's commitment to service and community shaped his early years, instilling values that would later contribute to his success in gymnastics.
PRC noted that Yulo was an active member of the Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School Junior Red Cross Youth Council from 2009 to 2012 under the PRC Manila Chapter.
Ezra Canlas, Yulo’s Red Cross Youth adviser, shared the golden boy’s humble beginnings from competing at the Manila Meet to larger gymnastics competitions.
“Yulo’s achievements inspire not only the Manila Red Cross Youth but the entire nation,” Canlas said.
To celebrate Yulo’s historic win, the foremost humanitarian organization posted a congratulatory message on its social media platforms and created the hashtag #ProudangRedCrosskayCarlos.
PRC noted that Yulo’s journey from a young volunteer to an international sports icon is a testament to how dedication in one area of life can lead to excellence in another.
Volunteers aged 7 to 30 are welcome to join the Red Cross Youth. Those interested can visit the nearest PRC Chapter or email [email protected] for more information.
