Cleaning up La Union coast

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M. FLORENDO, Philippines — Police are not only concerned in protecting the people but also the enviroment.

Wednesday at least 65 personnel from Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) with barangay officials and members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPAT’s) of San Vicente and Pagudpud, and about a hundred students from the La Union National High School (LUNHS participated in a coastal clean-up activity in San Fernando City, La Union.

Ilocos Sur prepares for typhoon

VIGAN CITY — The members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in Ilocos Sur are alerted for the possible effect of Typhoon Juaning that was landfall at 9:30 in the morning Wednesday in Casiguran Aurora province, it was reported here.

Ilocos Sur’s PDRRMC Action Officer Siegfred R. Duquing told Wednesday that all members –agencies of the PDRRMC are close monitoring the effect of the Typhoon Juaning particularly in the coastal areas of the province. (Freddie G .Lazaro)

Cavite launches clean up drive

Officials in Cavite have launched a regular clean-up drive, starting in Bacoor district, the so-called gateway of the province to Metro Manila. The clean-up drive will be held on a rotation-basis year-round in Cavite’s seven districts in a bid to prevent flooding, particularly in Bacoor and the first district which comprises Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario and Cavite City.

The drive included the cleaning of Manila Bayside and esteros, rivers, drainages, other waterways and streets in the province. The cleaning drive began in Bacoor last Saturday with 2nd District (Bacoor) Representative Lani Mercado-Revilla and Irene D. Bencito and Aristedes Jose Velazco, 7th and 5th Districts board members, respectively, leading the activities. (Anthony Giron)

San Pedro prepares emergency funds

SAN PEDRO, Laguna — The Association of Barangay Chairmen (ABC) of this town has passed a resolution aimed at helping barangay officials, including barangay captains, in times of emergency needs like hospitalization, burial, and legal matters.

The Board Resolution No. 2011-001, funded through a fund-raising raffle also benefits officers and members of the Samahang Kabataan (SK), village watchmen (barangay tanods) and barangay secretaries and treasurers. (Ferdinand F. Castro)

First underpass for Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY — A multi-million underpass will soon rise in this mountain resort city following the go signal given by experts from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) central office to push through with the ambitious project that will help solve the city’s worsening traffic woes.

Engr. Ireneo S. Gallato, district engineer of the Baguio City District Engineering Office (BCDEO) of the DPWH), said the more or less 500-meter long underpass will be constructed along Naguilian road in front of the Baguio Justice Hall up to the road’s junction with Ferguzon road, one of the arterial roads in the city leading to the different barangays.
