MANILA, Philippines -- Jenson Button proved wrong the McLaren detractors who are insinuating that their win in the recent German Grand Prix was just a fluke when he convincingly won the Hungarian GP last Sunday.

Button, who started his 200th GP last Sunday, convincingly won over Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who finished in second and third places, respectively.

Last Sunday’s race was a very exciting one as Vettel and McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton took turns in the lead during the early part of the race. The current World Champion led the first four laps on a very wet track but a mistake enabled Hamilton to overtake him. During the first set of pit stops, Button was also able to overtake Vettel with the top-three order remaining so until the next 29 laps.

A brief rain shower later in the race made the track very slippery making Hamilton spin in a chicane and handing the lead to Button. However, as Hamilton made his way back into second place, he accidentally forced Paul di Resta to take avoiding action that foiled his chances of finishing in a top-seven position.

The incident between Hamilton and di Resta was investigated by the race stewards who deemed that the McLaren driver deserved a drive through penalty.  Hamilton ultimately lost the chance to get a podium finish after he served the penalty that dropped him to fourth.

Vettel extends his world championship points lead with 234, while Webber remains second on 149, with Hamilton third on 146, Alonso fourth on 145 and Button closing in again with 134. Red Bull’s lock on the constructors’ championship shows no sign of waning with 383 points to McLaren’s 280 and Ferrari’s 215.

The Formula 1 circus goes on a three-week break and will be back on Aug. 28 for the Belgian Grand Prix.
