MANILA, Philippines -- It will be a nu metal showcase Wednesday night (Aug. 10) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the keenly-awaited debut performance of internationally-acclaimed nu metal band, Korn.

Billed as “Korn Live in Manila,” it will be presented by Ovation Productions with Slapshock as fitting opening act.

Touted as the third biggest nu metal band in the world, Korn boasts a long record of achievements earned during its successful career that began in 1993 in Bakersfield, California when it was formed by a group of musicians as an expansion of the heavy metal band L.A.P.D.

Among its hit albums are “Korn,” “Life Is Peachy,” “Follow The Leader,” “Issues,” “Untouchables,” “Take A Look In The Mirror,” “See You On The Other Side,” “Untitled Album” and “Korn III: Remember Who You Are.”

Korn, which sold 16 million albums in the US and over 40 million worldwide, marked a career milestone on Oct. 5, 2004 with the release of its greatest hits album, “Greatest Hits: Vol. 1.”

The present line-up of Korn is composed of Jonathan Davis (1993 to present), lead vocals, bagpipes; James “Munky” Shaffer (1993 to present), guitars, backing vocals; Reginald “Fieldy” Arvisu (1993 to present); and Ray Luzier (2007 to present), drums, percussions.

Tickets are available at Ticketnet outlets at all SM Department stores and at the Smart Araneta Coliseum ticket office.

Sarah, Angeline in a project

The rumor saying there’s bad blood between Sarah Geronimo and Angeline Quinto continues.

Recall that the two vied for the title “Star For A Night,” a prestigious singing competition in 2002 hosted by Regine Velasquez on IBC-13.

Though we may not be seeing the two of them onstage doing a sing-off anytime soon, we have seen them together in a Belo Essential TV commercial that has been airing recently.

Angeline, who is a new endorser of Belo Essentials, joined Sarah, the brand’s faithful endorser for three years now, in a campaign called “BELOfied! The Belo Essentials Beauty Makeover.”

“BELOfied” will grant four girls’ wish to be transformed by the Belo Authority as this promo would give each of them a P150,000 beauty makeover which includes the following: P50,000 worth of non-invasive services from the Belo Medical Group; P50,000 worth of clothes and fashion styling from Chocolate Clothing; P30,000 worth of hairstyling and makeup from Creations Salon by Lourd Ramos; and P20,000 worth of personality development lessons from Modern Academy.

‘Good ole disco’ revived

In the latter part of the ’60s, the late film director Ishmael Bernal opened “Gray November n My Soul” along A. Mabini St. in Malate. Artists and future hippies of that generation crowded into its confines and talked about life.

Down the street near the corner of Remedios St. came along “Indios Bravos,” a café owned and run by poetess Betsy Romualdez Francia and her husband, filmmaker Henry Francia. Flower power bloomed, the anti-Vietnam War rallies crowded America’s streets and the young strummed their guitars and sang in folkhouses.

Then came the disco houses in the late ’70s. And in the ’80s, Ernest Santiago opened Copacabana along Remedios Circle with Subway Disco along M. Adriatico St. catching up to accommodate the late crowd.

Twenty years later, Joseph “Jon” Garcia revives “good ole disco” at the “Shut Up & Dance,” along M. Orosa St. corner J. Nakpil St.

Jun Himeno (Subway Disco) performs at the place from Monday to Friday from 7 p.m. to 12 midnight.
