PNP action in Iloilo hailed

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. welcomed the lifting of the gun ban imposed by PNP regional director Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol in eight Northern Iloilo towns, allegedly on rising lawlessness. The measure was massively protested because Defensor, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the town mayors were not consulted before the ban was imposed.

The ban was supposed to have lasted until Jan. 15, 2012 but Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Raul Bacalzo ordered the lifting of the gun ban effective last August 15, or one month and a half after it was implemented.
