Smart scholarships to state universities

MANILA, Philippines — Graduating students of state colleges and universities that are members of the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) can apply for a one-year scholarship offered by Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) for the schoolyear 2011-2012.

The scholarship is open to any full-time graduating student enrolled in any of the following degree courses: Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or Information Technology, Management Information Systems and Information and Communications Technology in any of Smart’s 13 partner state colleges or universities under SWEEP.

Qualified SWEEP partners include the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Technological University of the Philippines – Manila and the University of Makati in Metro Manila; Bulacan State University, Mariano Marcos State University, Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology and Tarlac State University in North Luzon; and Batangas State University and Bataan State Peninsula University in South Luzon.

Those covered in the Visayas and Mindanao are the Technological University of the Philippines – Visayas, Mindanao State University – General Santos and the University of Southeastern Philippines. Scholarship benefits include the payment of assessed school fees and book allowance per semester and a monthly stipend. Students interested in applying for the scholarship must download the SWEEP scholarship application form from the website and submit the accomplished document at their respective scholarship offices.

PSBank grants scholarship to poor Chinese-Filipinos

Ten Chinese-Filipino students from Tondo, Manila, who come mostly from low-income families will have the chance to study at the Chiang Kai Shek College (CKSC), through the PSBank Educational Assistance Program. The program, which started in 2008, provides PhP200,000 worth of scholarship grants every year to 10 underprivileged but deserving students in the Chinese community.

The scholars are also invited for on-the-job training at PSBank and are given priority hiring status.

This year, the program was renewed through the signing of a memorandum of agreement and presentation of the 2011-2012 scholars, namely: Kathrinna Palo, Mikee de Leon, Jennica Ong, Charmaine Anne Chi, Cheene Lee, Princess Sia, Katrina Tee, Jessica Lhay Asaña, Sarah Kristine de Asis and Mary Grace Khu. They were chosen based on their family income, academic standing and good character
