SM eco bags back greening

STA. ROSA CITY, Laguna, Philippines — The promotion of SM’s Eco Bags is helping tree-planting activities in this province, Pamela Peters-Buan, SM City Sta. Rosa information officer said Friday.

She said that as the new bag with the “I am Involved” tag line launched in all SM Supermalls nationwide on August 24, proceeds for the bag sales will go to the various tree-planting projects of SM Supermalls in partnership with the United Nations and the University of the Philippines Los Baños’ College of Forestry in celebration of the National Year of the Forest. Law seminars for cop chiefs

IMUS, Cavite — A series of seminars will be conducted for the chiefs of police (CoPs) of Cavite in a bid to improve further their performance and services to the community. Senior Superintendent John C. Bulalacao, Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) director, revealed this as he said that some University of Philippines (UP) professors are set to hold on mid-September a three-day seminar on jurisprudence for the CoPs in the area.

He said the PPO has already communicated with the UP Law Center for the seminar on laws and jurisprudence set in September. “We will be holding seminars in the next few months to hone the officers’ knowledge and performance particularly which regard to law implementation and community services,” said Bulalacao. Garcia motivates investors in FAB

MARIVELES, Bataan — Investors here cited Friday the all-out support being extended to traders by Bataan Rep. Albert S. Garcia, who has been boosting the confidence of businessmen to invest in the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB).

One of Hong Kong’s big-time investors, Raymond Tan of Luen Thai Philippines, gave credit to Garcia for motivating foreign investors to come in. Garcia has described the FAB as the fast-growing industrial site in the country due to its strategic location and accessibility to Metro Manila, Clark and Subic Bay Freeport. (Mar T. Supnad)

Alaminos sets up medical center

ALAMINOS CITY, Pangasinan — Improved healthcare for all is the promise of the P50-million Hundred Islands Medical Complex project in Barangay Bolaney, here, according to officials who foresee its operations to start by the middle of next year.

Apart from providing quality healthcare, the facility to be operated by the city government expects to benefit from medical tourism. The Pangasinan State University-Alaminos is also mulling to offer medicine courses to boost the medical sector in this city, sources at the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) said. CAR warned vs dengue mosquitoes

BAGUIO CITY — With the rainy weather prevailing, the Cordillera office of the Department of Health (DoH) reminded the public Friday to take all precautionary measures against dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

Dr. Alexei Marrero, DoH-CAR Anti-Dengue Program coordinator, said that though the number of dengue cases this year is lower than that of last year’s, the public should not be complacent and must remain vigilant as clustering of cases has been noted in some barangays all in the region.
