New agri machinery cluster to boost Philippine farming—DA

The Department of Agriculture (DA), in partnership with the Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO) and Cabanatuan City, has signed an agreement to establish the Philippines' first-ever local agricultural machinery manufacturing cluster.

In a statement, the DA said the initiative aims to revolutionize the country's agricultural sector by enhancing productivity, improving food security, and fostering economic growth. 

The partnership, sealed through a memorandum and understanding, will focus on establishing an assembly line for agricultural machinery, conducting research and development to advance agricultural technology, providing comprehensive workforce training programs, and offering financial support through Official Development Assistance.

President Marcos earlier expressed strong support for this project, recognizing its potential to significantly impact the country's agricultural landscape. 

He emphasized the importance of modernizing agricultural practices to boost rice production and ensure food self-sufficiency.

KAMICO, a leading organization in the Korean agricultural machinery industry, is committed to contributing its expertise and resources to the project. 

By stimulating local manufacturing, promoting the use of advanced agricultural machinery, and improving crop quality, KAMICO aims to empower Filipino farmers and enhance their livelihoods.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. said the project aligns with the DA's four-year plan, "Para sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas," which prioritizes the modernization of agricultural production systems. 

He said the partnership will play a role in accelerating the adoption of advanced agricultural technologies and strengthening the resilience of farming communities.

The signing of the MOU coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the Republic of Korea.
