Shear line, easterlies may bring scattered rains over parts of Luzon

Some areas in Luzon may experience rain showers due to the shear line and easterlies, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Oct. 13.

The shear line forms when cold air collides with warm air, while the easterlies are winds that blow from the Pacific Ocean and can bring warm air.

PAGASA said these weather systems may bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon.

Those in these areas are warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to occasional heavy rains. 

PAGASA said the easterlies may also bring partly cloudy to cloudy conditions, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, to Bicol Region and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Similarly, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather apart from isolated rain showers, mostly in the afternoon or evening, due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA advised the public to stay vigilant as severe thunderstorms may also trigger flash floods or landslides.

Severe thunderstorms often bring heavy rainfall, lightning, thunder, and strong winds, usually lasting up to two hours.
