2-year-old girl dies after being run over by pick-up truck in Tondo

A two-year-old girl died after she was run over by a pick-up truck in Tondo, Manila, the Manila Police District (MPD) reported on Tuesday, October 15.

The MPD identified the suspect as Jenard Rodriguez, 35, a resident of Tondo.

Police said the suspect stopped along Masinop Street corner Morga Street, Barangay 42, to load his passengers around 4 p.m. on October 13.

Meanwhile, the victim was playing on the side of the road with other children.

Police said the victim walked towards the front of the pick-up truck when it moved forward causing the suspect to run over the victim.

Investigator said that it is possible that the suspect did not see the victim because his car was high.

The victim was rushed to Mary Johnston Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Alyza Najera, the mother of the victim, said she left their house to buy food when the incident happened.

Barangay authorities reminded motorists to be careful when driving on the narrow roads in the area.

Police said the suspect will face homicide charges.
