New method to harvest oysters
DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — The City Agriculture Office (CAO) here has introduced a new way of propagating mollusks that enable oyster growers to harvest the shellfish without dipping a finger in water.
The new method known as the “floating oyster clutch” was introduced by the team of City Agriculturist Emma Molina and now put to test.
They set adrift two “clutches” to which floating oyster can attach in the waters of Talaib in Carael.
The cultch has a 6x6-meter bamboo raft kept afloat by four 200-liter capacity container drums that hold the spats where the bivalves cling on to so harvesting after 4 to 5 months will be made easy by just lifting the spats. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
