Taiwan donates US$150,000 to 'Kristine' victims

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) has donated around US$ 150,000 to the Philippine government as a form of assistance to those affected by tropical storm “Kristine” that hit the country last month.

The donation, equivalent to around P8.7 million, was done while Taiwan was being hammered by the same weather disturbance.

“The assistance given by Taiwan will help victims of the recent calamity that hit wide areas in Luzon rebuild their lives. It has so far provided will definitely boost the determination of our people to rebuild their lives and put them back on the road to recovery,” said Manila Economic and Cultural Office chairperson Cheloy E. Velicaria-Garafil.

Earlier, Taiwan also donated 500 metric tons of Taiwan rice as part of a 2,000 MT rice donation for calamity victims.

For his part, TECO Representative Wallace Minn Chow said: “Disasters like this remind us all of our shared humanity and the importance of standing together in times of trial.”

“Taiwan is committed to being a true friend and reliable partner to the Philippines, ready to extend a helping hand whenever needed. Together, let us stand united in our efforts to support the affected families in the regions as they rebuild their lives and communities,” he said.
