Negrense leader
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental, Philippines (PIA) – The National Youth Commission has picked Negrense Adolf Aguilar as National Leader during the 38th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) that will take 29 young Filipino leaders on an Asian cruise.
Aguilar was chosen to lead a group of 29 youth ambassadors from the Philippines onboard the cruise liner MS Fuji Maru from October 26 to December 16. A Bachelor of Science in Education major in Social Studies and Southeast Asian Studies graduate of Silliman University, Dumaguete City, he currently works as division information communication technology coordinator at the Department of Education (DepEd) provincial office.
Trucks apprehended
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) – A composite team of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Land Transportation Office (LTO), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) has apprehended 119 trucks during a month-long operation against violators of Republic Act 8794 or the Anti-overloading Law in August.
Rosalinda Vacant of DPWH 6 said most of the apprehensions were made in Iloilo with 42; followed by Capiz with 33; Aklan, 22; and 11 each in Negros Occidental and Antique. The law states that trucks should exceed allowable vehicle axle load of 13, 500 kilograms and the gross vehicle weight (GVW); 27,280 tons for 10-wheeler truck and 10,680 tons for six-wheeler trucks.
Antique bust
SAN JOSE, Antique (PNA) – Police authorities have arrested two suspected drug peddlers Joselito Capin, 36; and Luche Oribe alias 'Pane;' both residents of Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, in a buy-bust operation in San Jose, Antique.
Police said the suspects yielded 4.8 grams of suspected shabu with a market value of P50,000 and recovered from suspects P6,000 in marked money used in the operation. The arrest of the two drug suspects from Bakhaw, Mandurriao showed that illegal drug traders has shifted their operations making other neighboring provinces in Panay their possible market.
NFA accomplishment
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) – The National Food Authority (NFA) has cited its Capiz Office for its procurement accomplishment so far this year. The procurement target for Capiz was increased nearly seven percent, from 215,000 bags last year to 230,000 bags this year, but still, the NFA there was able to procure almost 80 percent of its January to August 2011 target.
Target for 2011 was set at 80,000 bags of palay, but the office has already bought some 63,929 bags from January to August this year. This accomplishment is 212 percent higher than NFA-Capiz’s procurement accomplishment last year.
Eligibility tests
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) – Some 7,000 examinees from six Western Visayas provinces signified readiness in taking Civil Service Eligibility Examinations set October 15, 2011.
Test venues will be the Bacolod City National High School, West Visayas State University and Iloilo National High School, Kalibo Pilot Elementary School, and Kalibo Elementary School.
While no definite passing grade is followed in every examination, a score of 80 percent is usually recognized as passed, according to the CSC.
