Renovation completed
TAYTAY, Rizal, Philippines — True to its continuing support to men in uniform, the provincial government Monday inaugurated the newly renovated sleeping quarters for police officers of the Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO), here. Rizal Governor Casimiro “Junjun” Ynares, III led Capitol officials in the blessing of the two-storey building.
Supt. Samuel Delorino, PPO spokesman, said Ynares and other provincial officials supported the renovation project. Ynares called on the PPO to strengthen its fight against all forms of crime, especially illegal drugs. He also lauded the Rizal Officers’ Ladies Club for organizing a blood-letting activity in support of government’s anti-dengue program. (Nel B. Andrade)
Ejercito opens exhibit on Rizal
STA. CRUZ, Laguna — Governor Jeorge “E.R.” Ejercito opened Monday the five-day Rizalian Photo and Book Exhibit at the lobby of the Capitol, here, giving pride to the people of Laguna, the province of national hero Jose P. Rizal.
The exhibit features the family tree of Rizal; 27 of his portraits; nine photos of women in the life of Rizal including Josephine Bracken, Leonora Rivera, and Segunda Katigbak; sculptures and writings of the national hero. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
P344-M insurance for crops paid
SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga — Officials of the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) in Region 3 disclosed Monday that their agency already paid a total P344 million to some 6,469 typhoon affected farmers and livestock raisers in Central Luzon.
PCIC Regional Manager Romeo Gonzales said that the insurance beneficiaries representing farmers’ groups, cooperatives, lending institutions and non-governmental organization, whose crops and livestock such fish, chickens and other animals were reportedly destroyed or perish during the recent typhoons and floods already received the payments. Survey: OL trap beating dengue
LOS BAÑOS, Laguna (PIA) — Initial results from various regions revealed a decrease in dengue cases after using the Mosquito Ovicidal Larvicidal (OL) Trap, the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) reported over the weekend.
In Region 2, for example, five schools in Ballesteros and Claveria towns in Cagayan reported “zero case” as of press time, namely the Libag Elementary School, North Central School, Caritan Elementary School, Cataggamman National High School, and University of Cagayan Valley.
Official reports showed that in 2010, there were 210 aggregate cases of dengue among schoolchildren in four barangays where these schools were located. After the OL Trap rollout in these barangays, no cases have been reported thus far.
Terminal to rise in Arayat
ARAYAT, Pampanga — Mayor Luis Espino revealed Monday that 1.8 hecares of land dedicated for the construction of new Arayat Central Terminal (ACT) is now being developed with a budget of P80-million.
Municipal Executive Secretary Amador Pineda said that the town central terminal will be constructed within the boundaries of the barangays of Poblacion, Guemasan and Cacutud and will serve the same purpose as the transport terminal in San Fernando City. (Franco G. Regala)
