Sitti celebrates anniversary via concert
MANILA, Philippines -- There’s only one “Bossa Nova Queen” in the country and she is Sitti, who’s celebrating her 10th anniversary in show business via a concert billed as “Ang Aking Awitin” slated Firday night (Sept. 16) at the Music Museum. Sharing center stage with her are Rico Blanco, Duncan Ramos, and Jett Pangan with the special participation of DJ Dense Modesto and the Whiplash Dancers.
This is an all-OPM show, Sitti said. “Here, we try to cover almost all significant OPM songs. I’ve never done an OPM show before. Yong latest album ko pala contains OPM songs. With this album, I just wanted to show the different side of me, na hindi lang ako bossa nova queen.”
To stay in showbiz for a decade is already a big achievement considering the stiff competition among the entertainers. Sitti just came back from a US concert tour together with the Sessionistas (they perform every Sunday on “ASAP Rocks” of ABS-CBN). “We had shows in California, Chicago, Las Vegas, Reno, and Alaska. Successful naman lahat ang show namin,” Sitti said during her recent presscon.
Sitti, whose musical influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Astrud Gilberto and Gal Costa, said Warner Records tagged her Bossa Nova Queen. She has so far released bestselling albums as “Café Bossa, Sitti Live!,” “Sitti in the Mix,” “My Bossa Nova,” “Contagious,” and the latest, “Sitti Sessions.”
Presented by La Carmela de Boracay, “Ang Aking Awitin” is directed by Calvin Neria with Ria Villena-Osorio as musical director.
Maria Aragon makes Pinoys proud
Internet kid sensation Maria Aragon, who became famous for her rendition of “Born This Way” and shared the stage with Lady Gaga in her Toronto concert last March, is truly making us all proud.
She is not only talented, she is also responsible enough to present herself to the National Historical Commission to seek advice on how best to sing our National Anthem during the Pacquiao-Marquez bout in November.
The 11-year-old Filipino-Canadian singer gained even more fans when she appeared in “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “Good Morning America.”
Maria launched her album on “ASAP Rocks” where she performed with Sarah Geronimo. She also did a duet with Yeng Constantino at Aliw Theater.
Maria, who said her favorite singer is Michael Jackson, has been going on mall tours promoting her debut album with Star Records.
The album, now available in record bars nationwide, includes “Born This Way” (carrier single), “You’re My Home,” “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing,” etc.
