Tagaytay folk set walk record

TAGAYTAY, Cavite — Thousands of residents have joined the initial week-long “Alay Lakad (Walk for a Cause)” for youth education in this prime tourist destination, setting a walk record in Cavite and elsewhere in the region.

The local government also conducted a four-day “Lingap sa Mag-aaral (Care for Schoolchildren) ” affair, kicking off activities for the “ber” months leading up to Christmas.

The Alay Lakad and “Lingap” are brainchild projects of Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and his wife Dr. Agnes Delgado-Tolentino, chairperson of City Council for the Welfare of Children, which call and encourage the youth, especially the children, to attend school and study well. (Anthony Giron)

San Carlos eyes heritage park

SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan — This city, known for its sweet mangoes, earned another distinction after producing the biggest mango pie as declared by the World Record Academy last year.

This was bared during the Mango Festival here over the weekend.

With the “I Love Pangasinan” tourism campaign taking off, the city also plans on embarking on the construction of a heritage park in Barangay San Juan, a place formerly known as Binalatongan which was the center of the city a few hundred years ago. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

Alvarado cites 10 best citizens

MALOLOS CITY, Bulacan — Ten outstanding citizens of Bulacan who excelled in different fields of expertise were given the highest award in the annual provincewide search dubbed “Gawad Dangal ng Lipi” or DNL Search held last Friday at the Hiyas Pavilion, here. Gov. Wilhelmino M. Sy Alvarado lauded the contribution of the new prides of Bulacan, namely: Nemencio J. Concepcion for Agriculture, Dr. Calvin S. delos Reyes for Science and Technology, Dr. Norma L. Salcedo for Education, Alfredo Paulo D. Vargas for arts and culture, Dr. Teofredo T. Esguerra for health, Jorge Allan R. Tengco for Entrepreneur, Rodolfo C. 13 Quezon farms now irrigated

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — Thirteen irrigation system projects, valued at P27.3 million, were completed by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) in this province, the Quezon Irrigation Management Office (QIMO) reported over the weekend.

The projects were started last January and completed this month, benefitting a total of 578 Quezon rice farmers.

Leading the list of projects were the Pinatubigan West Communal Irrigation System in Perez town and the Villa Esperanza communal irrigation system in Alabat. (Danny Estacio)

Manila-Baguio flights are back

BAGUIO CITY — A local airline company here disclosed it is resuming regular Baguio-Manila-Baguio flights starting September 23 to boost the local tourism industry by allowing the influx of high-end tourists wanting to spend a short break in the country’s Summer Capital.

Richard Tanglao, operations manager of Sky Pasada, said the company acquired a new aircraft that will be dedicated to service the Manila-Baguio-Manila route after the same was abandoned by the company last year following stringent requirements. (Dexter A. See)
