Generics expo

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, Philippines (PIA) — The Generics Expo in Eastern Visayas will be held October 4 in Tacloban City, Department of Health (DoH) Region 8 Director Edgardo Gonzaga informed. Said Expo highlights the month-long celebration of September as Generics Awareness Month.

Drug Product Exhibitors will be invited to introduce their products to clients. The Generics Act of 1988 or Republic Act No. 6675 otherwise known as Generics Law was promulgated in order to answer out-of-pocket budgets of most Filipinos. Mainstream features of generic drugs are quality, affordability, accessibility, availability and bioavailability.

Machineries roadshow

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — Agriculture Secretary Alcala opened the Agricultural Machineries (Agri Mach) Roadshow Thursday. The event jumpstarts the Aquino government’s farm mechanization and post-harvest program and gathered farmers, irrigators associations, private sector, manufacturers and inventors of various kinds of farm machineries from all over the Visayas.

On exhibit are four-wheel tractors, drum seeders, rice combine threshers, dryers, reapers, and hand tractors, among other farm equipment with manufacturers on hand to give a description of their products.

PESO symposium

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — The Public Employment Service Office recently conducted a symposium for Bacolod Overseas Filipino Workers associations at the Masskara Hall of the New Government Center. PESO’s plan to organize an OFW association in every barangay to disseminate information about OFW benefits was presented during the symposium.

Also brought up were other services offered by PESO. PESO Head Moises Dela Cruz talked about such benefits as health care, disability, death, education, and training as well as welfare assistance from the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Drivers lauded

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Mayor Michael Rama lauded Cebuano public utility drivers for not taking part in last Monday’s nationwide transport strike initiated by a Manila transport group protesting rising oil prices.

Cebu City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) Executive Director Rafael Yap said even if local transport groups joined said strike the city government would have fielded its own buses and barangay vehicles.

Local transport group leader Loreto Perez said that they had “weighed things if it was right and essential” to conduct a strike.

School-On-Air broadcast

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Over 300 slots are available in the next School-On-Air (SOA) broadcast to be aired Oct. 23-26 over RMN-Roxas radio station here. Farmers wanting to enroll may see the municipal agriculturists or agricultural technologists in their area to fill up forms. Deadline for application filing will be on Oct. 12.

The program airs Sundays, 12 noon to 1 p.m. On-air topics include best practice testimonials from previous enrollees while resource persons will comprise of agricultural technologists and Department of Agriculture specialists.
