Veteran Allan Ararao bested Alvin Abrigo in his trusty Mitsubishi Evo to rule the second leg of the 2018 Philippine Drag Racing Championships-Southern Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit recently. Ararao posted a time of 7.042 seconds over the 1/8-mile straightaway of the racetrack in Rosario, Batangas, and upended Abrigo, who timed 7.633 seconds in a Honda Civic. Ryan Quimpo, in another Civic, clinched the face-off for third place in 7.931 seconds of the class confined to the leg’s eight fastest drivers in the preliminaries. Ararao made it a victory double with an unchallenged conquest in the Super Pro class of the races sponsored by Aguila Glass, M&H Racemaster, Sparco and Driven2Ride and sanctioned by the Automobile Association of the Philippines. Quimpo struck back in the Pro class with an 8.601-second clip, with Abrigo clinching second and Romualdo Vasquez finishing third in an Evo. Earl Quimpo topped the Expert class in a Honda Civic with a time of 13.886 seconds followed by Jefferson Cruz and Kris Neil Natanauan, while Stephen Jay Esguerra ruled the Sportsman Class in another Civic in 14.468 seconds over Dan Bathan, Anthony Casantusan, Tiboy Dunca and Von Nario. The Expert and Sportsman classes, as well as the Hotstreet divisoon, which Terenz Hormillosa dominated over Harly Calubiran and Arvin Avellanada, were ran over a 1/4 mile distance.
