36 CTG underground members surrender to Army's 81IB

By Francis Wakefield A total of 36 underground members of Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) voluntarily surrendered to the Army's 81st Infantry (Spartan) Battalion in Ilocos, Sur on Sunday. (MANILA BULLETIN) (MANILA BULLETIN) Nine members of Kabataang Makabayan, a CTG solid mass organization in Barangay Legazpi, Galimuyod, Ilocos Sur surrendered to the 81st IB Community Support Program (CSP) team, in the presence of barangay officials. Ten other members of Kabataang Makabayan and 17 members of Samahang Magsasaka, surrendered during the same day to the 81st IB CSP team, also in the presence of barangay officials at Brgy. Bugnay, Candon City, Ilocos Sur Said surrenderers were presented to their respective municipal mayors. It is a known fact that mass organizations such as the ones previously mentioned often become the breeding ground for CTGs. They take advantage of the youth’s idealism and thirst for adventure. For other groups, they fuel the issues and exploit their weakness. In a separate event, the 81st IB recovered two high-powered firearms, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and war materiel at Sitio Aguid,, Brgy. Agawa, Besao, Mt. Province on September 22 at around 5:50 p.m. Former CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) Antonio Tabling alias Andy who surrendered to the 81IB in July, voluntarily provided information on the location of firearms and other war materiel.
