“Let us ask ourselves: Why did Jesus die for me?” noted Archbishop Jose Romeo Lazo of the Archdiocese of Jaro, which oversees the Roman Catholic Church in Iloilo City, Iloilo province and island province of Guimaras.
In his message, Lazo said that the faithful should remember that amidst the changing times where fun has replaced reflection.
“It is at this time that there will be distractions: fiestas, ferias, vacation to the beach or mountain resorts,” Lazo noted.
“We may find ourselves overwhelmed with so many pleasures around the Holy Week and lost the meaning of the passion and suffering of Jesus,” Lazo emphasized.
The archbishop also said that the lay faithful should acknowledge that suffering is part of everyday life.
“We take up our cross daily, which means that we may not, in our suffering, pass on bitterness to those around us.
We groan under the weight of our pain, but not whine in self-pity or bitterness,” he urged.
