DOT-8 facilitates return of 82 stranded tourists to respective countries

TACLOBAN CITY – A total of 82 stranded tourists in Eastern Visayas were able return to their respective countries last May 26, a report from Department of Tourism Region 8 (DOT-8) said here Saturday, May 30.
DOT-8 Director Karina Rosa Tiopes told The Manila Bulletin the 82 foreigners were stranded in the six provinces of the region due to the general community quarantine imposed by the different local government units (LGUs) due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Tiopes said the US Embassy in Manila had arranged for the flight for the stranded tourists.
She added that the 82 tourists who were stranded in the region for more than a month, left on a PAL sweeper flight.
Tiopes reported that the 82 stranded tourists were composed of 24 Americans, 11 Australians, 4 Norwegians, 3 Lithuanians, 12 Germans, 1 Dutch, 1 Korean, 2 Canadians, 4 British, 2 Finnish, 3 Irish and 15 Filipino immigrants.
