CAR to release 1M fingerlings
BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — In line with the country’s 48th year celebration of Fish Conservation Month this month, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-CAR) will be dispersing one million fingerlings to various communal bodies of water in the region to help achieve the desire of the agency to have localities be fish self-sufficient that will help improve the preservation and promotion of the local fish industry amidst the region’s mountainous terrain.
This was announced by BFAR Assistant Regional Director Lilibeth Signey, asserting the agency’s sincerity in the dispersal of the fingerlings so that local folk in the region will be empowered to raise fish for livelihood. (Dexter A. See)
Greening up at cops' cemetery
BARAS, Rizal — Policemen assigned to the Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO) will dedicate a day to plant trees at an eight-hectare area donated by the provincial government to be converted as a cemetery for Philippine National Police (PNP) members.
Senior Superintendent Manuel Cesar Prieto, PPO director, said the area was donated to the PNP through the initiative of Rizal Governor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares, III. Prieto will lead Tuesday’s tree-planting at the location to be known as the Himlayan ng mga Bayaning Pulis in Barangay Pinugay, here. (Nel B. Andrade)
50 motorcycles back to owners
CAMP GEN. PACIANO RIZAL, Laguna — A total of 50 impounded motorcycles, here, have been turned over to their respective owners, Senior Superintendent Gilberto Cruz, Laguna Police Provincial Office (PPO) director, said Monday. He said the motorcycles were either recovered from robbers or impounded due to expired registration papers.
They were seized by police at checkpoints under the PPO’s “Oplan Sita” to intercept possible crime suspects and avert their getaway. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
Bataan towns get livelihood aid
MARIVELES, Bataan — Livelihood and relief assistance have reached ambulant vendors and typhoon-affected residents of this municipality and its neighboring areas of Limay and Morong.
A project pushed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) in Central Luzon, the “Negosyo sa Kariton Project” is fully supported here by Mayor Jesse I. Concepcion who joined DoLE Regional Director Leopoldo B. De Jesus in distributing the P100,000 livelihood assistance to ambulant vendors.
In Limay, Mayor Ver Roque distributed relief goods to typhoon-stricken residents. DoLE also partnered with Roque and Morong Mayor Cynthia L. Estanislao for the distribution of livelihood cash checks worth P100,000 for each recipient in their respective towns. (Mar T. Supnad)
CAR farmers win 4 awards
BAGUIO CITY — Three farmers and a farmers’ multi-purpose cooperative from the Cordillera Administrative Region won in the recent 2010 National Gawad Saka Search of the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The winners were Francisco Ching, “Outstanding High Value Crops Farmer,” from Cada, Mankayan, Benguet; Genice B. Dalisdis, “Outstanding Small Animal Raiser,” from Tuba, Benguet; Danilo C. Trongco, “Outstanding Fisherfolk” (Fish Culture) from Lagangilang, Abra; and Sayapot Multi-Purpose Cooperative as “Outstanding Food Terminal” (Non-LGU managed). (Dexter A. See)
