Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda, Jr. has designated a new chief of the police’s main drug enforcement unit following the controversy that rocked the organization over the alleged involvement of some if its uniformed personnel in illegal drugs activities.
Acorda has designated Police Col. Dionisio Bartolome, Jr. as the new head of the PNP-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), replacing Police Brig. Gen. Faro Antonio Olaguera who was re-assigned as head of the PNP Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO).
Olaguera assumed the top PDEG leadership amid the relief and filing of charges against top officials and some personnel of the unit in connection with the confiscation of 990 kilos of shabu in Manila last year.
Aside from the two, also affected by the recent revamp are Police Brig. Gen. Neri Vincent Ignacio who was named as the acting deputy director of the Directorate for Logistics; Brig. Gen. Cosme Abrenica as acting deputy director of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management; and, Brig. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico as acting deputy director Directorate for Intelligence.
Police Brig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo was named acting deputy director Directorate for Research and Development while Police Col. Noel Sandoval was designated as acting executive officer for Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management.
Police Col. Nestor Babagay, on the other hand, was named acting executive officer for Directorate for Intelligence.
