Limasawa scores

MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Philippines (PIA) — Consistently being recognized for its nutrition program in the past six consecutive years, the historic island-municipality of Limasawa, this province, shone again after it bagged the Nutrition Honor Award, the first local government unit in Region 8 to reap such distinction.

Limasawa was a Green Banner Awardee for nutrition in the years 2005, 2006, and 2007, while in 2008, 2009, and 2010 it was named Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN).

Peacekeepers awarded

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — Seven members of the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) were conferred the Philippine National Police (PNP) Efficiency Medal for bringing honor to the police organization for their competent handling of the hostage-taking crisis that took place in the Bureau of Jail Management Penology (BJMP) facility in the Antique capital last August 25, 2011.

Awarded were Police Superintendent Marloe L. Marfil, APPO Deputy Provincial Director for Administration, Police Superintendent Jose Roy T. Torrechilla, Police Chief Inspector Gilbert T. Gorero, Police Inspector Juvy E. Gorero, Police Inspector Jereme M. Belo, SPO1 Ariston F. Gilza and PO1 Marlon A. Galido.

Accountant reinstated

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. — The Civil Service Commission (CSC)’s order reinstating dismissed accountant of the Negros Occidental provincial government Merly Fortu is being opposed by provincial officials.

Fortu’s dismissal was based on a Sangguniang Panlalawigan-supported decision by Gov. Alfredo Maranon, Jr. after a complaint charging Fortu with arrogance and misconduct was filed against her by Vice-Governor Genaro Alvarez last July 1, 2010. (Edith B. Colmo)

Coop Congress

CEBU CITY, Cebu — The first Central Visayas Cooperative Congress takes place October 20-22 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel with at least 500 Visayas cooperative officers and staff attending and Vice President Jejomar Binay as keynote speaker.

With “Kalinga ng Kooperatiba sa Kalikasan (KKK)” as theme, the Congress will feature topics including Credit Program for Agri-forestry; Plight of Electric Cooperatives; Social Development Issues focused on Phil-Coop Educational System; Coop and Youth Sectors; Transport & Housing Coops and Gender, among others. Cops cited

ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — Three members of the Roxas City Police Station (RCPS) were recently cited by the city government as outstanding policemen for the month of September. Certificates of recognition, cash, and bags of rice were given to SPO1 Rosario Olaveja, PO3 Juliana Abalayan, and PO3 Rodulfo Capapas of RCPS.

These Roxas City firemen and police auxiliaries were also cited during the awarding rites: FO1 Dennis Pabilico, FO1 Raymund Barroa, and SFO1 Antonio Vidal while citation for police auxiliaries were given to Excelito Borreros, Marlon Mendiola, and Ronnel Alejandro.
