3 hurt, 100 families displaced in Tondo fire

Three people, including a volunteer firefighter, were hurt while around 100 families were displaced in a fire that broke out in a residential area at the corner of Quirino Street and Herbosa Street in Tondo, Manila on Friday night, March 15.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that a 20-year-old Moriones Fire and Rescue volunteer sustained a laceration wound on his hand, while a 34-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman both suffered first-degree burns. 

They were immediately treated and are now in good condition.

The BFP said the fire started at 10 p.m. and was immediately raised to the first alarm at 10:06 p.m. and second alarm at around 10:13 a.m. 

After an hour, the fire was declared under control at 11:24 p.m. and was extinguished at around 11:48 p.m. 

Arson investigators said around 20 houses made of light materials were burned, affecting over 100 families or 200 individuals. 

On Saturday, March 16, the affected residents went back to their houses to check if there were items they could still use.

Probers said the residents are temporarily staying at the barangay covered court.

They are still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and the estimated cost of damage.
