Blue tree
CENTRAL VISAYAS, Philippines (PIA) — The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu recently launched its ‘Blue Tree project’ during an ecological mass and unveiling of a marker in its school campus at Canduman, Mandaue City. Initiated in partnership with the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI), the project is the school’s “green” investment for the environment’s future.
A project initiative is to establish a native tree nursery inside the school campus which will be a satellite for RAFI-Native Trees Nursery under RAFI’s nationwide GREENIN’ Philippines project. The project is called Blue Tree after Ateneo’s brand color.
Investigation course
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA)— Capiz police director S/Supt. Domingo Cabillan said 50 police investigators from various police stations in the province are attending the shortened Criminal Investigation Course (CIC) that started at the Capiz Police Provincial Office in Barangay Lanot last Sept. 19 and which will end October 25.
He said the 35-day training is expected to enhance the investigative capabilities of police investigators in the province. The training course is a Philippine Regional Office (PRO) - 6 program aimed at increasing the number of qualified investigators in Western Visayas.
DOE action
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental (PIA) — The Department of Energy (DOE) will tap Local Government Units (LGUs) in the province to stop the informal retailing of petroleum products usually sold in soft drinks bottles.
Called “bote-bote," DOE Visayan Field Office Director Antonio Labios said during the recent information, education and communication campaign of the agency held at the New Government Center here that the practice is not only dangerous but also unfair to recognized petroleum products dealers and retailers.
Energy Industry Management Division Supervisor Engr. Rey Maleza also said inhaling gas fumes that are emitted by these bottles containing petroleum products is dangerous to one’s health while its informal resale poses threats to the area for lack of safety measures.
Pantawid Caravan
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PIA) — Over a thousand Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries availed of services offered by government agencies during the Pantawid Convergence Caravan held at the Ramon Magsaysay Gymnasium October here last Oct. 1, 2011.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Region 7 initiated the program highlighting various services offered by the national, provincial and local offices at a one-stop shop for Pantawid beneficiaries from the six Metro Ubay barangays. The event was also an occasion to remind Pantawid beneficiaries of the conditions they have to comply with to continue getting their benefits.
Consumer fair
TACLOBAN CITY Leyte (PIA) — A three-day Consumer Info Fair will kick-off October 10 at the Robinsons Place in Tacloban City as highlight to the celebration of the National Consumer Welfare Month (NCWM) in Region 8.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Leyte Provincial Director Desiderio Belas said the Fair will showcase consumer information and awareness materials which will be provided by agencies involved in the celebration like the Department of Agriculture, Department of Education, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Health, Department of Trade and Industry, among others.
