A 72-year-old Japanese man died after his suit jacket got caught in an escalator at a station in eastern Japan on Wednesday, March 27.
According to the local police, the man was identified as Mamoru Suzuki, a resident of Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Local police said that a staff member of the station found the victim collapsed but still conscious near the escalator's exit, which connects the station platform to the ticket gate area, at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Authorities said his jacket was trapped in the escalator's handrail.
They also stated that the escalator was moving when the accident occurred.
The victim was immediately brought to a hospital, where he fell unconscious and died, the local police said.
Police said that the cause of his death remains unknown.
Authorities are still conducting an investigation and reviewing the footage from the station's security camera.
