Cavite wins 2 Pamana awards

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite, Philippines — After having been named as one of the 10 Philippines’ top-performing provinces this year by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Cavite was also adjudged as the Regional Gawad Pamana ng Lahi 2011-Provincial Category Awardee.

Carmona town also won the same award in the Municipal Category. For the province’s feat, Governor Jonvic Remulla was to receive the award and P3 million cash from the DILG Tuesday at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Manila. (Anthony Giron)

JICA vegetable program til 2014

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — The Safe Vegetable Promotion Project in the province will be extended for two more years to further save the vegetable industry from deterioration.

Funded under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and implemented by the Japan Agricultural Exchange Council (JAEC) in 2007 in this town as pilot area, the project adapts organic farming technology.

The program will be extended from 2012 to 2014 and now include the marketing component for the trading of vegetables. (Dexter A. See)

Ilocos Sur gov aids Pampanga

SAN SIMON, Pampanga — Ilocos Sur government officials have sent its mobile water filtration van to flood-stricken areas in Pampanga, to extend potable water supply to families still lacking water to drink.

Bong Hormilosa, personnel of Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson disclosed that the van is fully equipped with high-tech water filtering equipment, including a reverse osmosis machine.

It was deployed to help in particular the flooded municipalities of Candaba, San Luis, San Simon, Apalit, Macabebe and Masantol. (Franco G. Regala)

Mayor appeals for sea search

DASOL, Pangasinan — Mayor Noel Nacar of this town, who is also League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) Pangasinan Chapter president, appealed Tuesday to concerned national government agencies to help find 14 fishermen missing near Scarborough Shoal since last September 22.

Nacar made the appeal in behalf of the families of the fishermen on board “F/B Hans Patrick,” one of six fishing boats that went on the fishing expedition and got caught up in the middle of a storm. Earlier, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessel “Islander” returned empty handed after a search of the vicinity of Scarborough Shoal. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)

Police warn vs animal cruelty

BALANGA CITY, Bataan — Police warned Tuesday the public against animal cruelty particularly on butchering dogs. The warning came after the police arrested over the weekend two suspected dognappers after they were caught in the act of transporting 10 live dogs in barangay Ibaba, this town.

Sr. Inspector Jansky Andrew Jaafar, chief of police here, said that the Samal policemen composed of PO2 Romel Buduan, PO1 Alvin Salvacion and PO1 Socrates dela Rosa were conducting mobile patrol along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Ibaba, Samal, Bataan when they chanced upon a Galvanized Kawasaki Tricycle without plate number on the act of transporting the 10 dogs.
