NSU anniversary
NAVAL, Biliran, Philippines (PIA) — The Naval State University (NSU) in Naval, Biliran will turn two years old on Oct. 14, 2011. Dr. John Romagos, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and NSU information officer-designate, said various activities are set to mark NSU’s 2nd Charter Day anniversary even as a two-day jobs fair focused on maritime recruitment agencies will also be held.
At the same time, land-based jobs will also be available for those seeking employment. Furthermore, he informed that land jobs of sorts are also available to applicants who desire to get employment.
16th UniGames
ROXAS CITY, Capiz (PIA) — The Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) is requesting for at least 30 policemen from the Police Regional Office 6 to augment the provincial police force in securing delegates to the 16th Philippine Sports Commission-University Games (UniGames) to be held here on October 22–29.
Capiz police director S/Supt. Domingo Cabillan said policemen will be visible for the entire duration of the event while the Philippine Coast Guard has offered K-9 dogs to also secure the some 2,000 athletes, coaches, trainers and sports coordinators and officials from some 50 public and private colleges and universities all over the country who will descend here for the games.
Consumer month
SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — This year’s celebration of Consumer Welfare Month underscores the importance of food sufficiency and food safety among consumers. Provincial Director Jose Divinagracia of the Department of Trade and Industry here said the theme “Sapat, Ligtas at Abot-kayang Pagkain para sa Lahat” highlights the continuing program on food sufficiency and provision of affordable and safe food for the consuming public.
The DTI and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist’s intensive information campaign on said program is now in full swing throughout the province with the use of mass media, radio, cable television and print to reach out to various audiences.
Passengers stranded
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, (PIA) — A total of 73 passengers bound for Mindanao, including 13 rolling cargoes or vehicles, were stranded at the ferry terminals of Liloan and Benit, San Ricardo, because of tropical depression “Ramon,” the Coast Guard station based in this city reported.
In its forecast early in the morning Thursday, the weather bureau listed Southern Leyte province as among the provinces under storm signal number 1, prompting local officials to mobilize their respective disaster risk reduction management councils, and the automatic suspension of classes in pre-elementary and elementary levels.
MGB-6 warning
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Mines and Geosciences Bureau-6 is cautioning those living in areas highly prone to landslides to take precautionary measures. In an advisory issued to the provinces, MGB regional director Leo van Juguan reminded the local government units to be mindful of the geohazard assessment results given them.
Juguan said all barangays in Western Visayas were assessed for landslides and flooding risks, and high risk barangays were given advisories.
