Pacquiao breaks silence on Comelec controversy affecting BBM disqualification
Breaking his silence on the on-going controversy in the Commission on Elections, PROMDI Party presidential aspirant Manny Pacquiao appealed to the poll body to “protect the truth and apply the law fairly” in the resolution of the disqualification case filed against rival Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
Dared by retiring Commissioner Rowena Guanzon to speak up about her revelation that a politician has been interfering in the resolution of the case, Pacquiao said the poll body must stick to the rules set forth by the Constitution and the laws as its officials resolve case brought to its attention.
“Nakakalungkot itong mga pangyayari ngayon sa Comelec. Itinatag ito sa ilalim ng Saligang Batas upang bantayan at tiyakin ang patas, malinis, mapayapa at walang bahid na panlilinlang sa ating mga halalan. (I am sad with what is currently happening in the Comelec). It was established under the Constitution to safeguard and make sure that elections are fair, clean, peaceful and without a stain of deceit.) It is the primary guardian of our democracy,” he said.
Interviewed by Comelec reports on Monday, Guanzon said she will name soon the politician who attempted to influence the decision of commissioners assigned to decide on the petition to disqualify Marcos from the presidential race.
Earlier, Guanzon revealed that she voted to disqualify Marcos based on the facts and evidence presented by the petitioners.
She told reporters that they should ask Pacquiao and another presidential candidate, Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson to comment on the on-going controversy.
“Manny pacquiao magsalita ka. Kristiyano ka. May sinasabi sa bibliya (Manny Pacquiao speak up. You are a Christian. The bible is saying something)” said Guanzon.
In reaction, Pacquiao, the country’s boxing pride, said: “Protektahan natin ang katotohanan at patas na aplikasyon ng batas. Huwag natin baluktutin ang mga prosesong nagpapatibay sa ating demokrasya.(Let us protect the truth and the equal application of laws. Do not break the process that strengthens our democracy).”
