LAPU-LAPU CITY -- Former Bay Area Dragons forward Hayden Blankley found himself back in the country as he hopes to get another crack at basketball glory, not in the PBA, but in the East Asia Super League.

Now with Taiwanese team New Taipei Kings along with former NBA star Jeremy Lin, Blankley is hoping to finally win a championship in the EASL Final Four after falling short of getting one in the PBA.
Blankley was a vital cog in the Dragons’ run in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup last year as the Brian Goorjian-mentored squad went on to dominate their way to the Finals of the conference.
He teamed up with imports Andrew Nicholson and Myles Powell along with Kobey Lam, Zhu Songwei, Glenn Yang, Duncan Reid and towering Chinese center Liu Chuanxing.
In the Finals, they met the crowd darling Barangay Ginebra led by Christian Standhardinger, Scottie Thompson and Jamie Malonzo and lost to them through seven games in front of a record crowd at the Philippine Arena.
The team was supposed to make their return to the PBA last conference but the team surprisingly disbanded, allowing players like Blankley to get his talent elsewhere.
“I’ve lost here in the Philippines. This is my second year playing professionally, so this is my next opportunity to win in my career so far,” said Blankley during the players’ media availability shortly after the New Taipei Kings practice at the Hoops Dome.
“I want to win this for sure,” he added.
No Philippine team would be standing in Blankley's way this time although his Kings are out for a tough task against a Japan B.League powerhouse in the Yuki Togashi-led Chiba Jets in the semifinals.
