Disease prevention
SAN JOSE, Antique, Philippines (PIA) — Antique joins the rest of the global community in the campaign for Global Handwashing as one the most effective and inexpensive means to prevent diseases and infections.
Democrito Figuroa, Jr. Philippine Coordinator, Essential Health Care Program of United Nations Children’s Fund will be the guest of honor in Thursday’s Global Handwashing Day program at Buhang Elementary School here.
He will be turning over manuals and kits for Essential Health Care Program (EHCP)-Fit For School, which is part of the UN agency.
DoE seminar
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PIA) — The Department of Energy (DoE)’s Visayas Field Office conducted an energy conservation seminar at the Leyte Provincial Capitol’s Governor’s Hall Tuesday aimed at intensifying power efficiency and conservation.
Dubbed “Seminar on Government Energy Management Program,” the activity was an initiative of the government sector in implementing program and activities to achieve energy savings, DoE Visayas Field Office Director Antonio Labios said, adding that the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) is part of the Philippine Energy Reform Program aiming to cut monthly consumption of electricity and monthly petroleum products by at least 10 percent in all government entities.
17th NACOCOW
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Iloilo provincial secretariat and other concerned government agencies and non-government organizations will lead in activities set to mark the 17th National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW).
This is in line with the restorative justice process meant to heal the wounds of persons affected by an offense including victims and offenders as well as the entire community. A medical and dental mission led by the Provincial Health Office will be held Oct. 23 at the Iloilo Provincial Integrated Jail in Pototan, Iloilo.
Meat safety
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — A two-day meat fair started Monday at the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Regional Office 6 compound at Iloilo City’s Fort San Pedro to mark the 19th National Meat Safety Consciousness Week (NMSCW).
The week-long celebration emphasizes consumers’ safety and well being in the light of various threats to human health by meat from questionable sources.
A motorcade along the city’s major routes opened the week-long celebration themed “Matatag na Batas, Ligtas na Karne and Katumba.”
BSP advocacy
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental recently held an information campaign at the Silliman University School of Basic Education (SUSBE) on advocacy programs by the BSP.
Some 1,050 elementary pupils from SUSBE, together with the school's faculty, staff and Parent-Teachers Association (PTA), attended the advocacy program held last week inside the SUSBE campus. BSP Dumaguete Branch Research Specialist Divine Labitad who is in-charge of BSP-Dumaguete’s Economic and Financial Learning Center gave a lecture on the new generation Philippine banknotes, National Coin Recirculation and the BSP' Clean Note Policy.
