Humanitarian project
SAN SIMON, Pampanga, Philippines — At least 10,000 residents in several typhoon-stricken barangays in this town benefited on Tuesday from the European Union (EU) humanitarian “Food for Work” project.
EU delegation to the Philippines Public Affairs officer Thelma Gecolea said the grant of 200,000 euros funded a food for work program wherein beneficiaries involved in clearing the clogged waterways received food relief packs.
The Central Luzon Emergency Response (CLER) project, Gecolea said, covers San Simon town’s barangays of San Isidro, San Pablo Propio, Dela Paz, San Agustin, Sto. Niño and Sta. Monica. (Franco G. Regala)
Seniors' wellness
VIGAN CITY — The government of this world heritage city headed by Mayor Eva Marie Singson-Medina has started distributing free vitamins and basic medicines to all “walking senior citizens” residing here to ensure their wellness. In addition, the city government will also supply free diapers to all bed-ridden senior citizens starting this month.
Medina made the announcement during the culmination ceremony of the “Elderly Filipino Week” at Vigan Culture and Trade Center. At least 400 senior citizens attended the program which was capped by the awarding of trophies, plaques and cash incentives to Vigan residents who are 90 years old and above. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
Clark project
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga — Another tourism-related project is set to open a P30 million venture inside Clark Freeport Zone, the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) said Wednesday. Reports reaching the office of CDC President Felipe Antonio Remollo said the Americana Food and Leisure, Inc., will open an entertainment and dining complex inside the Freeport.
The proponent dubbed as “The Station” will be the first of its kind in the freeport zone.The dining complex is expected to serve various American dishes which the Clark is known for. Earlier, the Best Joint Group Venture, Inc. said it is also planning to establish a P70 million restaurant in Clark. (Franco G. Regala)
Livelihood loans
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – The Provincial Government of Pampanga has granted close to P2 million livelihood assistance to some 358 micro-finance entrepreneurs in the province in an effort to alleviate poverty in various areas in the province.
Gov. Lilia G. Pineda distributed the P1,985,000 worth of checks to the members of the "Negosyo king Panyulung" Program associations in recent ceremonies held at the Benigno Aquino Memorial Hall at the capitol compound here as part of the loan assistance program by the provincial government.
The Provincial Cooperative and Entrepreneurial Development Office report showed that the provincial government has provided more than P14 million financial loans which directly benefited 2,500 micro-entrepreneurs in the province. (Mark Anthony Manuel)
Dengue kits
TABUK, Kalinga — The Department of Science and Technology (DoST) has distributed 2,069 mosquito larvae traps to prevent residents from contracting the dreaded dengue fever.
The distribution was made following a lecture on the use of the simple but effective anti-dengue kits by DoST-Kalinga at the Department of Education (DepEd) division office here before 35 school heads from various districts. (Dexter See)
