Binay to grace 'Green Mile'
PITOGO, Quezon, Philippines — Vice President Jejomar Binay will grace the “Green Mile Tree Planting” on the national road in the 3rd District of this province on the occasion of the “BonPen (Bondoc Peninsula) Festival” slated October 28-29, 2011.
Quezon 3rd District Board Member Lourdes de Luna Pasatiempo said that an estimated 265-kilometer distance of road will be planted with trees on either side from Padre Burgos, the first town upon entering the Bondoc Peninsula. It will be highlighted by a fun run dubbed “Takbong BonPen para sa Kalikasan (A BonPen Run for the Environment).” (Danny Estacio)
PRO1 prepares for long 'Undas'
CAMP FLORENDO, La Union — Chief Superintendent Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) director, called the attention of all police officials and personnel in Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur Thursday to prepare well for “Undas 2011,” the occasion Filipinos remember their departed loved ones which is expected to stretch from October 29 to November 2.
Since All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days fall on a Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, and the Monday before is declared a holiday, Bucayu said police security and peace and order plans must be set in place as early as Saturday, Oct. 29. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
Binalayan Festival
BINANGONAN, Rizal — Weeklong festivities have been lined up for this town’s celebration of the Binalayan Festival.
This year’s celebration of the “Binangonan sa Lawa at Kawayan Festival” features a sale and exhibit of the town’s Island Bamboo Handicraft until Friday; unveiling of the new logo of the municipality; and talent presentation by school children.
Mayor Cecilio Ynares invited foreign and domestic tourists to visit his town and enjoy various native products and delicacies featured during the festival. (Nel B. Andrade)
San Pablo waste management cited
SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna — The City Government under the leadership of Mayor Vicente Amante was commended by the National Solid Waste Management Commission Executive director Emelita C. Aguinaldo for the efforts in finding solutions to the Solid Waste Management Concerns in the city.
Engr. Ruel Dequito, City Solid Waste Management Officer said the commission which is an agency under the Office of the President hopes San Pablo will sustain its successful programs and in the near future be one of the LGUs with best in Solid Waste Management Practices at the national level. LRED to hasten Limay growth
LIMAY, Bataan — To further hasten the economic development in this industrial town, Mayor Lilvir Roque launched recently the Local and Regional Economic Development (LRED) program, a participatory, action-oriented planning and implementation process by which public and private stakeholders work together to improve conditions for employment generation and economic growth.
The program created a working committee which has the support of Bataan Governor Enrique Garcia and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Director Blesila Lantayona. One scheme being pushed under the LRED is the Rapid Economic Appraisal (REA), a survey of stakeholders in the area to better address business and employment concerns. (Mar T. Supnad)
