House Deputy Majority Leader for Communications ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo says most of former president Rodrigo Duterte's pronouncements shouldn't be taken too seriously.
The broadcast journalist-turned-congressman made this comment after Duterte seemingly criticized his direct successor, President Marcos, for his foreign travels.
Duterte described these trips as "pasyal nang pasyal", or just leisurely travels.
"Most of the statements of the [former] president, we should take it lightly na lang kasi ganon ho ang pag katao niya, palabiro ho ang [dating] pangulo (we should just take it lightly because that's his personality, the former president likes to crack jokes)," Tulfo said in a press conference Thursday, March 14.
"Parang hindi na ho tayo nasanay sa pangulo, I mean, six years...hindi ba lahat tayo nagulat nung pag-upo na pag-upo ng pangulo, is he serious? Hindi ba?" asked the solon.
(Haven't we gotten used to the president I mean six year...weren't we all surprised that the moment he took his seat, is he serious? Wasn't he?)
"So, dapat memorized na ho natin na, lalo na tayo sa media, what is a joke and what is reality. Karamihan ho kasi ng sinasabi ng pangulo is, palabiro po ang pangulo," he said.

(So, we should have memorized already, especially us in the media, what is a joke and what is reality. Because most of what the president says is, the president likes to crack jokes.)
Tulfo argued that Duterte simply can't be compared to past Philippine presidents because of the latter's penchant to tell jokes.
"So mahirap ho, at tsaka tayo na ho mag judge. Is he telling the truth? Is he saying the truth? Nasa sayo na yun kung paniniwalaan ninyo o hindi," he said.
(So it's difficult, and it's left to us to judge. Is he telling the truth? Is he saying the truth? It's up to you whether you not to believe it.)
Duterte served as president from 2016 to 2022.
