Good security at Clark Airport

CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines — Officials of the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) assured the public Saturday that security is good and tight at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) here, often referred to as the “Clark Airport.”

CIAC Engineering Department Manager Ruel T. Angeles made the assurance as he denied reports of cable theft incidents at the runway and taxiway of the DMIA. “Security and safety were not compromised at the Clark International Airport,” said Angeles. He said new power cables were recently installed as part of upgrading measures. (Franco G. Regala)

How ‘Batangas’ sign idea began

BATANGAS CAPITOL — Batangas Provincial Information Officer Jing Segismundo revealed Saturday that all the talk about having a Hollywood-style marker that reads “BATANGAS” across the mountain scene of Taal Volcano and Taal Lake began in a coffee break conversation among Gov. Vilma Santos Recto and some officials thinking up ways to promote tourism in this province.

 Segismundo said the idea came up in the discussion and that the proposal will first have to be studied carefully. Meantime, he appealed to those criticizing the governor over the proposal to give her a break. (Ferdinand F. Castro)

Road assistance

LUCENA CITY, Quezon — The district offices of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in this province announced Saturday that they will assist motorists traveling here to visit and remember their departed loved ones on All Saints’ Day.

 Personnel from the DPWH-Quezon’s four districts will be deployed to establish motorists’ assistance stations on Maharlika Highway, Bondoc Peninsula Highway, and Quirino Highway. Each station will be equipped with standby heavy equipment, vehicle spare parts and other emergency logistics in case motorists encounter trouble on the road to the cemeteries in this province. Taytay students rule sports meet

RIZAL PROVINCE — Students from Taytay became this year’s overall winner in the weeklong Palarong Panlalawigan held recently in Marikina City. Rizal Governor Casimiro “Jun” Ynares, III congratulated the first placer, the Taytay Builders, a group of public high school students coming from Taytay municipality.

 The Taytay Builders’ win is the group’s fourth in the annual sporting event. Second placer is the group from Cainta while finishing third was Rodriguez town school children. The yearly sports activity is part of the commitment of the Department of Education-Rizal Division and Rizal Capitol to promote sports among the youth. (Nel B. Andrade)

Hermosa officials back Sumalo dev't

HERMOSA, Bataan — Mayor Danilo Malana and Vice Mayor Chris Vitug of this town expressed Saturday support for the Master Development Plan in Barangay Sumalo, here.

Retired-Colonel Rene Rapisura, administrator of the Riverforest Development Corp., the company of the Litton family that owns a 213-hectare property in Barangay Sumalo here, plans to turn the site into a commercial and industrial area.

Recently, the Sangguniang Bayan (Municipal Council) came up with a resolution for the development of Sumalo, a hilly and poor barangay in Bataan, said Rapisura. (Mar T. Supnad)
