DPWH warns of falling rocks, debris due to'Florita'

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Monday, Aug. 22, reminded motorists crossing the national roads at the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), especially in Kennon Road in Baguio City to make extreme caution when passing through.

The DPWH releases an advisory after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that tropical cyclone ‘Florita’ has intensified into a tropical storm.

In the PAGASA’s advisory, storm signal number 1 was hoisted over some parts of CAR, including Mountain Province, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao and Benguet.

The DPWH, however, said all national roads in Cordillera Administrative Regions connecting to neighboring provinces are still passable except the Kennon Road in Baguio City, as of press time.

All motorists passing through the region were reminded to expect slippery roads, falling rocks, debris and even instances of slope collapse may occur due to inclement weather conditions.

“Some road sections are also experiencing CLOSE-OPEN situations wherein falling rocks/debris and slope collapse may occur due to inclement weather. Motorists are advised to pass with extreme caution when passing through our roads,” says in DPWH CAR road advisory. (Jun Marcos Tadios)
