Opvet advisory

KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — Vaccinating pet dogs with anti-rabies vaccines will greatly contribute in totally eradicating rabies infection cases, although provincial veterinarian, Dr. Gervase Radislao of the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPVET) here said vaccination should be focused more on stray dogs, as they bear the greatest risk of acquiring rabies.

“As long as there are stray dogs, which are prone to rabies as they come in contact with other dogs, animals and dirt triggering infection, we cannot do away with rabies,” Radislao said. Aklan is a recipient of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which has provided Aklan with anti-rabies vaccines.
