Leyte schoolbuildings

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — The An Waray party-list has turned over two schoolbuildings worth P3 million in two towns in the province, said An Waray Rep. Neil Benedict Montejo.

He said one three-classroom school building costing a total of P2 million — the first to be built using concrete — was turned over to the elementary school in Brgy. Antipolo in Jaro, Leyte.

The party-list also distributed school supplies and slippers amongst some 100 pupils. Another school building, with one classroom, all worth a total of P1 million was turned over by An Waray to the San Agustin National High School, in Brgy. San Agustin, Babatngon, Leyte. (Restituto A. Cayubit)

Boholanos awarded

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines (PIA) — Four Boholanos excelling in their respective fields and manifesting the trait and character of Bohol’s most illustrious son, former President Carlos P. Garcia (CPG), were given recognition during CPG’s 115th birth anniversary Friday, Nov. 4, last week.

Recipients of the prestigious CPG Awards were Monsignor Margarito R. Gonzaga in the field of public service, businessman Argeo J. Melissimo for music, poet and literary artist Marjorie Evasco for literature and cultural worker Reinaldo P. Monreal for culture.

Green infrastructure

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Bacolod City councillor Em Ang is proposing for the adoption of an ecological approach, or construction design in retrofitting of buildings and movable properties in this city. In a resolution, she is proposing that the design, construction and/or retrofitting of buildings in Bacolod be made to meet minimum green infrastructure standards, providing incentives to builders.

“The continuing development of real estate and land development projects must be mindful of the basic principles of conservation, environmental protections and planning patterns that consider the natural environment,” Ang underlined in her proposed resolution. (Edith B. Colmo)

Purple ribbon 

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines (PIA) — Population Commission Region 8 Director Leo Rama said Reproductive Health (RH) advocates in Tacloban City will conduct an event on Purple Ribbon day, Nov. 15 which signifies a call for the Philippine Congress to finally vote on the RH bill.

Sponsored by the Philippine Legislators Committee on Population and Development, three major activities will be held on said date: A motorcade around Tacloban at 4 p.m., a program at the Maritime Polytechnic Circle with a candle-lighting to coincide with a declaration of commitment to sustain the RH bill enactment advocacy and a flying of wishing balloons.

Grant assured 

UBAY, Philippines (PIA) — Bohol Rep. Erico Aumentado has pledged Ubay town’s P600,000 counterpart for a tractor unit under a grant from the Department of Agriculture.

This after the Local Finance Committee (LFC) of the Ubay local government unit (LGU) was convened by Mayor Eutiquio Bernales to take up the matter following the visit to Ubay of Provincial Agriculture and Technology Coordinating Officer (PATCO) and Bohol Agricultural Promotion Center (BAPC) Promotional Manager Engr. Eugene Cahiles to remind Bernales to already submit a duly signed certification confirming availability of P600,000 counterpart fund.
