'11-11-11' Rosary event in Dagupan
DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines — Some 11,000 Catholic youth are expected to converge here to pray the Holy Rosary on Friday morning in line with the project “A Million Roses for the World (AMROW).”
The event dubbed “Eleven-Eleven-Eleven,” according to the date 11-11-11, will be held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, here. Young Christians from other religious denominations are encouraged to join the project which Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas of the Lingayen-Dagupan will lead.
“It is a campaign to pray one million one hundred rosaries all over the Catholic schools, colleges and universities nationwide at eleven o’clock in the morning on the eleventh of November this year 2011 (11 am on 11-11-2011),” said Villegas. (Liezle Basa Iñigo)
‘Distressed’ ship found safe – P.C.G.
LAOAG CITY, Philippines — The Panamanian cargo vessel reported “distressed” off the coast of Burgos, this province last Friday was found safe along the shoreline near Dasol, Pangasinan last Sunday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Monday. Lt. Senior Grade Dennis Rapal of the PCG based in Currimao, this province, said the “M/V Oceanic Union” was found at 45 nautical miles off Dasol town in Pangasinan.
All its officers and crew are also safe aboard the vessel, which was headed for Subic Bay as of press time yesterday afternoon. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
Clark buys P10-M security cameras
CLARK FREEPORT, Philippines — The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) Public Security Department has allotted P10 million for the procurement and installation of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras which will be installed in all security gates of this premier Freeport, intersections, and major thoroughfares in Clark.
The said project is part of its security measures in preparation for the influx of more tourists here this coming Yuletide Season.
Also, the state-owned corporation has allotted another P1 million to enhance the rescue capability, training, and logistical support for the CDC-SFD personnel. (Mark Anthony N. Manuel)
Quezon to boost tax collection
LUCENA CITY, Philippines — The provincial government is set to launch a tax campaign on real property tax (RPT) dubbed “Damayan at Serbisyong Publiko ng Bawat Pisong Buwis Mo” which aims to collect delinquent taxes.
Provincial administrator Rommel Edaño said that Governor David Suarez wanted to boost tax collection on RPT to be able to raise enough funds to be used for infrastructure and social services projects.
Edaño said that financial manager’s team was created to figure out an innovative approach to encourage taxpayers to pay their due and delinquent taxes several years back. (Danny Estacio)
AFP intelligence agents on alert
CAMP TOLENTINO, Philippines — Military intelligence agents were put on full alert in Central Luzon, following the reported “migration” to the region of some members of the so-called “Sparrow Unit” who had been dislodged from Mindanao.
This was learned from an intelligence officer who requested his name be withheld, who said that these hitmen of the New People’s Army (NPA) came all the way from Mindanao after they were reportedly affected by the intense military operations there for the past several days.
Both police and military commanders have been alerted in Region 3 for the possible arrest of the NPA members. (Mar T. Supnad)
