Here's a sign of normalcy that Filipinos, particularly vehicle owners, have been bracing for since Covid-19 cases and public fear over the virus started to subside--the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority's (MMDA) pre-pandemic number coding scheme.

Also dubbed the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), the number coding scheme will make its return on Monday, Aug, 15.

“From Aug. 15 to 17, we will start the dry run and will only remind motorists of the expanded number coding scheme. From August 18 onwards, the MMDA will start apprehending and will issue traffic violation tickets on ground and through our non-contact apprehension policy,” MMDA Acting Chairman Carlo Dimayuga III.

For those who need a refresher, the UVVRP is implemented from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. during weekdays, except holidays.

Under the scheme, vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 are prohibited on roads on Monday, 3 and 4 on Tuesday, 5 and 6 on Wednesday, 7 and 8 on Thursday, 9 and 0 on Friday.

The main purpose of the number coding scheme is to reduce traffic on main thoroughfares, particularly during the morning and afternoon rush hours.

Speaking of the MMDA, have we already received the final word about Mike Defensor's supposed "role" with the agency, which rubbed Palace legal counsel Juan Ponce Enrile the wrong way?

If anything, Defensor revealed that he has already aired his side to Manong Johnny, and that they are now "in agreement".

“I will continue to help the President and his administration in my private capacity and when I am asked to do so,” said Defensor, a former congressman and Palace chief-of-staff.

Enrile took issue with Defensor's involvement in a meeting with MMDA officials, insinuating that the latter--who lost in the Quezon City mayoralty race last May--didn't belong in that setting.
