City college
CEBU CITY, Cebu, Philippines (PNA) — The city could soon have its own college, if the ordinance proposed and filed by Cebu City Councilor Rodrigo Abellanosa creating the Cebu City College is approved by the city council.
Cebu City’s neighbors, including Consolacion town, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Talisay City and Cordova, have long established their community colleges.
Abellanosa, who owns and operates the Asian College of Technology, said the proposed college will provide underprivileged but deserving students technical and professional training in nursing, currently offered by the Cebu City Medical Center, and short vocational courses.
PNP oathtaking
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo — Some 47 Visayas-based candidates for police inspectors under the Philippine National Police (PNP) Lateral Entry Program CY 2011 took their oaths of office at the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 headquarters here.
Thirteen of the 47 came from the Police Region Office (PRO) 6, 14 from PRO 7 and 20 from PRO 8. Six of the 47 were also females. Said bets will undergo training on Public Safety Officers’ Candidate Course from five to six at the Regional Training School 6 in Bakyas, Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
They will also undergo Field Training Program at various police units under their respective Police Regional Offices before they are assigned to their final duty assignments. (Edith B. Colmo)
Lingkod bayan
SAN CARLOS CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — San Carlos City in Negros Occidental has won the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award in the group category, particularly for its Solid Waste Management Office (SWMO’s) work in information education campaign, operation of the San Carlos City Eco-Center and many other solid waste management efforts. Two years ago, the city also won the Galing Pook Award for its Sustainable Cities Project.
Along with San Carlos City Mayor Gerardo Valmayor, Jr, the SWMO, led by Engr. Loreto Sanchez with team members Engr. Arthur Batomalaque, Marietta Lomocso, Michelle Dumdum, Analou Gomo, Emmanuel Blanco and Charity Acabal received from Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa in a ceremony at Malacañang last November 9.
Seeds planting
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — The transport sector here will plant around 3,500 seedlings in support of the Action for Regreening and Transformation (ART) program launched by Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. last May, 2011.
Seedlings will be provided by the Iloilo Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and Vallacar Transit, a leading bus company operating in Western Visayas. The program is aimed at planting a million trees within this year.
Medium rise
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) — The city government is mulling the establishment of medium rise buildings (MRBs) for informal settlers upon the recommendation of Vice President Jejomar Binay.
City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said two city lot properties are suitable for such housing projects helping to decongest the number of informal settlers living in such danger zones as banks of rivers and creeks.
Said lots are the city’s property in Brgy. San Pedro, Molo and the old slaughterhouse site in Brgy. South San Jose, also in Molo district.
