Comelec releases calendar of activities for May 2019 midterm polls

By Leslie Ann Aquino Would-be candidates better take note of the Calendar of Activities for the May 2019 midterm polls. (MANILA BULLETIN) (MANILA BULLETIN) The Commission on Elections on October 1 promulgated the calendar of activities and periods of prohibited acts. Based on the calendar, the period for the filing of Certificates of Candidacy (COCs) is from October 11 to 17, 2018 except Saturday and Sunday. The period to file Certificates of Nomination and Certificates of Acceptance of Nomination for party-list groups is also set to run from October 11-12 and 15-17. Starting November 30, 2018, until midday of Election Day, the substitute of an official candidate of a political party or coalition, who died or was disqualified by final judgment, may file their COC, provided that the substitute candidate and the substituted candidate have the same surname. In Resolution No. 10429, the poll body scheduled the Campaign Period for those running for senator and party-list from February 12, 2019 to May 11, 2019. The Campaign Period for candidates for Members of the House of Representatives and elective Regional, Provincial, City and Municipal Officials will run from March 30, 2019 to May 11, 2019. Candidates are not allowed to campaign on the eve of Election Day (May 12) and on Election Day (May 13). Campaigning is also being prohibited on March 28, 2019 (Holy Thursday) and March 29, 2019 (Good Friday). The Election Period, on the other hand, is from January 13, 2019 to June 12, 2019. Election Day will be held on a Monday, May 13, 2019. The last day for all individuals who filed a COC to file their Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) is on June 12, 2019.
