Samsung Unpack opens a future for a bigger Galaxy series

Published Jul 26, 2023 11:58 am

The second half of the year is always an exciting one for the tech industry as big names put out bigger shows to unveil their newest devices. And of course, we have Samsung right here with their Unpack event, which comes in a little earlier than their usual August schedule.  And one of their most anticipated devices we have been looking forward to are the Galaxy Fold5 and Flip5.
The Galaxy Fold5 is now slimmer and easier to handle, which is now more noticeable than previous iterations.  It should come as no surprise that the Fold5 and the Flip5 are armed with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Since the beginning, Samsung has always been pushing for the Flip series to be a lifestyle product, and during the recent Unpack, shows how much personality they have added into the Flip5.  First among its biggest changes, is a bigger, 3.4-inch cover screen that can make and answer calls and send messages with, can capture videos, and is customizable. More than that, Samsung threw in widgets in this little screen, which is actually cute AF.  The cover screen can also record widescreen portrait videos, which should be very exciting for content creators and enthusiasts out there.  The Flip5 starts at P64,990 for the 256GB and P71,990 for the 512GB. While the Flip5 is aimed to lead the lifestyle category, the Fold5 then, is for productivity. All these productivity tools include an improved Task Bar, Multi Window, and App Continuity, to allow users to do more with the Fold5. One of the interesting features include drag-and-drop, meaning you can open multiple apps, drag one file and drag it to the other.  But, hold up! The first thing that is noticeable about the Fold5 is how refined it is. And by that, we mean when we flip it closed, both ends of the screen are laying flat at each other. Unlike previous Folds that would leave a tiny, kind-of awkward gap. That gap is gone. And it really does make the Fold5 look sleeker. Samsung calls this the Flex Hinge. And of course, Samsung said they made their foldables more durable and with IPX8 resistance.  While we always talk about the Fold5 as a productivity, it happens to take really darn impressive photos. Since earlier this year with the new S23 Series, Samsung has pushed forward Nightography, so any images you capture at night come alive with great detail. Also, the spirit of the Note (RIP) series lives on with the Fold5 as Samsung continues to support the S Pen. The new S Pen is now slimmer and more powerful. The new Fold5 cases allow easier and less awkward slotting of the S Pen.  Fold5 starts at P98,990 for the 256GB, P105,990 for the 512GB, and P119,990 for 1TB.
