DoST exam

ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Philippines (PIA) — Some 226 qualified graduating high school students from various schools in Capiz took the written competitive exam for the 2012 Science and Technology (S&T) Undergraduate Scholarships last Nov. 20 at the Capiz State University (CapSU)- Main Campus.

The exam was conducted by the Department of Science and Technology – Science Institute Education (DoST-SEI) at identified test centers nationwide. “Scholarship slots will be awarded by the Department of Science and Technology Science Education Institute (DoST-SEI) to qualified applicants who wish to pursue priority fields of study in science, mathematics and engineering courses,” according to the DoST– Capiz news release.

DOH-7 warning

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Elizabeth Tabasa, head of the Licensing Regulation and Enforcement Division of the Department of Health (DoH) 7, is asking the public to always ask the assistance of the pharmacist and ask for an official receipt every time they purchase their medicines.

She warned the public to be vigilant against fake drugs in the market even as the country observes National Consciousness Week Against Counterfeit Medicine. “Never buy medicines from street peddlers, especially those with foreign markings,” Tabasa said, advising consumers to only buy from FDA (Food and Drug Administration)-licensed pharmacies or drug stores “because one is assured that the drug they buy is genuine and not fake.”

Shelter month

CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — Pag–IBIG Fund Cebu North and South Branches marked “Shelter Month by joining in the Housing Fair with other shelter agencies at the SM City Cebu Rotonda recently.

The Housing Fair is an annual activity spearheaded by the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) with the cooperation of various shelter agencies like Pag–IBIG Fund, National Housing Authority (NHA), Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB), National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC) and the various developers of the Subdivision and Housing Developers Association (SHDA).

TSTP launch

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Biliran province will launch next month a new pilot program expected to really help nurture livelihood enterprises and total personality development for the agency’s graduates in the province.

TESDA-Biliran provincial director Loreta D. Banario said the agency will launch on December 14 the TESDA Specialista Technopreneurship Program (TSTP) in Naval, with consideration for the latter’s strategic location appropriate for the program.

PNP symposium

SOUTHERN LEYTE (PIA) — The Philippine National Police – Bontoc Station in coordination with Bontoc National High School conducted a Drug Abuse Prevention and Control symposium to mark National Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week.

The event aimed at making people aware of the dangers posed by drug abuse and to further strengthen public involvement in the fight against this menace.

PNP Police Community Operations Officer Abdulmajid Jaji said police authorities here conducted a three-hour symposium with the BNHS student body led by school principal Florentino Taotao.
