BACOLOD CITY – A six-year-old girl was wounded after she was stabbed by an allegedly mentally-ill man in a school in Barangay Linao, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, March 23.
Police Lt. Col. Roberto Indiape Jr., Kabankalan police chief, said the victim was at school playing with other children when the 34-year-old suspect stabbed her with an ice pick in the chest.
Indiape said the victim was conscious when rushed to a hospital in Kabankalan with the ice pick still lodged in her chest.
She was later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here for further treatment, he added.
Indiape said that the suspect was chased until he was cornered in Barangay Camugao.
The suspect was able to sneak into the school premises as the gate was just open and there were no classes at that time, he added.
Indiape said the suspect got irked when people mocked him and released his anger on the child.
He said that the filing of appropriate charges against the suspect will depend on the medical status of the victim.
Police are initially eyeing to file a case for violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act against the suspect.
