The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and SM Supermalls are championing road safety via their ‘Share The Road’ video campaign launched Monday, March 6.
"We are committed to one of the most crucial agenda of the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, to build safer, more accessible and more sustainable road infrastructure for the Filipino commuters," Secretary Jaime J. Bautista remarked.
The DOTr also reaffirmed its commitment to the policies, infrastructure projects and protocols of Active Transport centered on inclusivity and sustainability.
"We will continue this crusade for the Active Transport agenda," he confirmed.
As part of the joint initiative with SM Supermalls, the latter will disseminate the 'Share the Road' videos to SM Properties nationwide, such as SM Cinemas, LED screens, condominiums and other areas with high traffic to reach more cyclists, pedestrians, and other stakeholders.
SM Malls in urban centers are ideal locations to promote the Active Transport Program's protected cycling lanes, pedestrian walkways and end-of-trip facilities, Secretary Bautista noted.

“Showing these to community-based organizations form part of our capacity-building so the public can better appreciate Active Transport.”
In addition, “The signing of the Pledge of Commitment reinforce the long-standing efforts of DOTr and SM to disseminate information materials across the archipelago.”

The signatories of the Pledge of Commitment include Secretary Bautista, DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor, SM Supermalls President Steven Tan, Chairman of the Executive Committee of SM Prime Henry Sy, and Sr. Vice President and Director of the SM Cares Program on PWDs Bien Mateo.
Specifically, the Pledge of Commitment strengthens the information campaign for Active Transport users across the country.
Furthermore, "We have established 564 kilometers of protected bike lanes that are compliant with international standards in urban cities nationwide," Usec. Pastor announced during the launch.
"This year, we are expanding this by at least 470 kilometers more with funding from the General Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2022."
Cyclists and pedestrians are vital in the the Active Transport Program, Secretary Bautista acknowledged.
Hence, they should be given the highest priority among all road users, he concluded.
